Why Invest in Professional Garden Lighting?
Professional garden lighting extends the usability of your outdoor space, enhances your property's kerb appeal, improves security, and adds measurable value to your home. Done correctly, it transforms a garden from invisible after dark to a genuine living space.
LED technology has reduced running costs to pennies per night while offering lifespans of 50,000+ hours. A professionally designed LED garden lighting scheme uses a fraction of the energy that halogen systems consumed — with far superior light quality.
ElectroSafe provides a complete garden lighting service: free design consultation, supply of commercial-grade LED fixtures, safe installation of outdoor-rated circuits, and full certification to BS 7671.
Whether you want subtle pathway lighting for safe navigation, dramatic tree uplighting for atmosphere, security floods for deterrence, or a combination — we design systems that balance aesthetics, function, and energy efficiency.

The Problems with DIY Garden Lighting
Garden electrical installations operate in wet, exposed conditions permanently. Using indoor-rated cables, connectors, or fittings outdoors creates short circuit, shock, and fire risks that worsen with every rain shower.
Low-voltage plug-in garden lights from DIY stores typically last one season, provide inadequate illumination, and create trip hazards with exposed cables. The cost of replacing cheap systems annually exceeds the cost of a proper installation within two years.
Outdoor circuits require specific protection: 30mA RCD, correctly rated armoured or SWA cable buried to the correct depth, and IP-rated junction boxes. DIY installations almost never meet these requirements.
Poor lighting design creates glare, dark spots, and wasted energy. Pointing floodlights directly at paths creates blinding glare and deep shadows — the opposite of effective security lighting. Professional design eliminates these problems.
Any outdoor electrical work that involves a new circuit, a connection to the consumer unit, or burial of cables requires building regulation certification. Uncertified outdoor work is a building regulation violation.

Why Choose ElectroSafe
Free Design Consultation
We visit your property, walk your garden, and design a lighting scheme tailored to your space, style, and budget. No obligation, no pressure.
Commercial-Grade LED Fixtures
We use professional-grade fixtures rated IP65 or higher. Sealed units that withstand rain, frost, heat, and UV exposure for years without degradation.
Energy Efficient
LED garden lighting costs pennies per night to run. A typical 10-fixture system uses less electricity than a single 60W bulb. Savings from day one.
Smart Controls Available
Dusk-to-dawn sensors, timers, app-controlled zones, and integration with smart home systems. Your lighting adapts to your routine automatically.
Enhanced Security
Well-designed lighting eliminates dark spots and deters intruders more effectively than cheap motion-sensor floods. Continuous subtle illumination is proven more effective than reactive blinding.
Increased Property Value
Professional garden lighting enhances kerb appeal and extends usable living space. Estate agents consistently cite outdoor lighting as a value-adding improvement.
Garden Lighting: Techniques, Fixtures, and Design Principles
Professional garden lighting uses several key techniques. Uplighting places fixtures at ground level, projecting light upwards onto trees, walls, or architectural features. Downlighting mounts fixtures high — on walls, trees, or structures — casting natural-looking pools of light below.
Pathway lighting uses bollard fixtures or recessed ground lights to illuminate walkways safely. Fixtures are spaced at 2-3 metre intervals and positioned to light the path surface without creating glare at eye level.
Accent lighting highlights specific features: specimen plants, water features, sculptures, or garden structures. Narrow-beam spotlights (15-25°) create dramatic focal points, while wider beams (40-60°) wash larger areas.
Security lighting should be continuous and subtle rather than reactive and blinding. Permanently lit areas with warm-white LED fixtures are proven more effective at deterring intruders than motion-activated floodlights that create a startle-and-reset pattern.
Cable infrastructure for garden lighting uses SWA (Steel Wire Armoured) cable buried at a minimum depth of 450mm (or 600mm under driveways) or protected by conduit. All buried cables are marked with cable warning tape at 150mm above the cable.
Power supply for garden lighting is provided from a dedicated circuit in your consumer unit, protected by a 30mA RCD. A weatherproof outdoor isolation switch is installed at the point where the supply exits the building.
LED fixtures for outdoor use must be rated IP65 (protected against water jets from any direction) or IP67 (submersible). We use fixtures from established manufacturers with proven reliability in UK weather conditions.
Smart garden lighting systems can be controlled via smartphone apps, voice assistants, or programmed schedules. Zone control allows different areas to be independently managed — pathway lights on a dusk sensor, entertaining lights on manual control, security lights on 24/7.
